Panj takht tour: The 5 Royal Pilgrimage of Sikhism

"Takht" or "Takhata" literally means "throne" or "seat of authority." It is a direct result of the great historical growth of Sikhism, the main religion in the northern regions of India. But the Sikhs have made an impact not only in India but also throughout the world.

There are five Takhts, and these Takhts are five Gurudwaras which have extremely extraordinary importance for the Sikh people group as religious tourism in India. Guru Hargobind established the first and most important one in the year 1609. It is called 'Akal Takht' (the Throne of the Timeless God) and is found across the entryway of Harmandir Sahib - the Golden Temple in Amritsar. While the Harmandir Sahib, the Golden Temple, addresses the profound administration of the Sikhs, the Akal Takht represents statute and common movement.

It is the highest seat of worldly authority of the Khalsa and the seat of earthly authority of the Sikh religion. Here the Guru held court and decided matters of different sectors like military and politics. Afterward, the Sikh country (Sarbat Khalsa) chose matters of harmony and battle here and resolved debates between the different Sikh gatherings. The Sarangi vocalists used to sing the lyrics of the Sikh Gurus and heroes at this spot.

Pilgrimage to Panj Takhts of Sikhism

Sri Akal Takht Sahib

The most elevated mainstream seat of Sikhism was set up by the 6th Sikh expert Guru Har Gobind Sahib Ji in 1609, helped by Baba Budha Ji and Bhai Gurdas. Guru named it Akal Takhat (The Throne of the Almighty). Guru Hargobind Sahib held his court here and listened to the concerns of the needy. Guru wore two swords of Miri and Piri at this place, the secular imperial robe with a feather on the turban, ordered the Sikhs to bring weapons and horses as offerings and be both saint and soldier.

Akal Takhat has its customs; for instance, the cleric discusses the evening petition (Rehras Sahib) and Ardas with a bare sword in his grasp. Some uncommon weapons of Sikh Gurus and Sikh fighters are shown in a brilliant cart during the day and disclosed to the guests each evening.

Takhat Sri Kesgarh Sahib

Gurdwara Shri Keshgarh Sahib is also known as "Takht Shri Keshgarh Sahib '' and is one of India's five highest Sikh institutions; it is the most important Sikh shrine in the city. The city began as Chakk Nanaki, which Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji founded in 1665.

The foundation stone of the city was laid on March 30, 1689. It was here that the Khalsa Panth was born with the first inauguration of Khande Di Pahul when the young Guru convened a special meeting on Baisakhi Day of 1699, attended by thousands of Sikhs. One can barely comprehend how huge the region around Sri Keshgarh Sahib was to oblige the huge number of Sikhs present on that noteworthy day.

Takhat Sri Damdama Sahib

In Damdama Sahib, Guru Gobind Singh produced the revised and authentic version of the Adi Granth, which the Sikhs now revere as Guru Granth Sahib, their eternal Guru or spiritual guide or teacher. He added the sections of Guru Teg Bahadur to the first form ready by Guru Arjan Dev. An enormous number of new believers joined the Khalsa here. Guru Gobind Singh stayed at Damdama Sahib for almost a year.

This Takhat is situated in Bathinda in Indian Punjab and where Guru Gobind Singh, the 10th Guru of the Sikhs, made the total form out of Sri Guru Granth Sahib in 1705.  It was copied by Bhai Mani Singh. The hymns of Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib, the 10th Guru, and father of Guru Gobind Singh, were added to the Bir. Takhat Sri Patna Sahib

Guru Gobind Singh Ji (December 22, 1666 - October 7, 1708) was the tenth Guru of Sikhism. In Sikh society, Guru Gobind Singh is considered the perfect example of manhood: highly educated, skilled in horsemanship and armed combat, polite and generous.

The life and teachings of Guru Gobind Singh Ji have left a lasting impression on Sikh ideology and daily life. His founding of the Khalsa is considered one of the most important events in the history of Sikhism. In Nanded, he declared the Guru Granth Sahib, the holy scripture of Sikhism, the next permanent Sikh Guru on October 7, 1708. Takhat Sachkhand Sri Hazoor Sahib is where Guru Gobind Singh set up camp in 1708 after the flight of Emperor Bahadur Shah and where the 300th-commemoration festivity of Guru Granth Sahib was held in October 2008.

It is where his tent stood, where he recuperated in the wake of being assaulted by professional killers, and where the light of Guru Gobind Singh Ji rose to join with the light of the Creator. The 10th Guru held his court and gatherings here. This spot is currently one of five Takhts that are of most extreme significance to the Sikhs. The other four Takhats are Akal Takhat in Amritsar, Takhat Keshgarh Sahib in Anandpur, Takhat Patna Sahib in Bihar area, and Takhat Damdama Sahib in Talwandi Sabo, Bhatinda, Punjab.
